Feasts for the senses
No matter what the occasion is, food and drink complement a good time. So why not make it the main event? Here are a few options that involve some good eats and/or drinks to make the centerpiece of your party one that sits well in the stomach.
Joan Marconi took this route when she organized a party for her friend Lisa, who was having a destination wedding in Italy. To complement the European excursion, Joan planned a four-hour culinary tour of Boston’s famous North End for Lisa’s friends and family in lieu of a bridal shower.
“The tour guide. Michele Topor, not only accommodated but incorporated wedding traditions and food from the region where the wedding was to be held.” Says Marconi. “This not only got us excited about Italy but gave us a shared experience.”
Marconi booked the outing with Topor’s award winning North End Market Tours (617-523-6032, (www.northendtours.com) which has been featured in various publications and web sites such as Boston Magazine, The Journal of Italian Food, Wine and Travel, Cooking Light, and New England Travel & Life.
“The tour is very much like a walking cooking class.” Says Topor, “so the participants learn great cooking tips as well as where and how to buy authentic Italian ingredients.” Classy stuff.
