  • Three and one half hour market tour with Dim Sum breakfast or lunch at the start or end of the tour
  • We will do our best to provide a customized or specialty tour to meet your group’s needs.

All tours include:

  • tastings of traditional snacks and sweets
  • secrets on where to find authentic ingredients, how to buy and prepare them
  • handouts describing the stores
  • insights on new restaurant finds
  • historical insights into the Chinatown community and Chinese culture

In order to provide an optimal experience during your tour, groups are limited to 22 participants. Since the shops we visit are very small, and often busy, our two expert guides need to keep the number touring with them to 11 people each.

While we do not provide transportation, we can arrange to have a guide meet the group at a local hotel, prior to the tour, to escort the group into the neighborhood. Cost: $50

Tour prices include the 5% sales tax but does not include the 15% gratuity, which will be added to the final price.

All-day tour
$200.00 per person – 8-11 people
$180.00 per person – 12-22 people
The ultimate tour experience- spend the day touring and eating in Chinatown. We will start the day with a typical Cantonese-style breakfast at our favorite local tea house where you’ll learn about Chinese tea culture, and how to choose from the myriad varieties found in the shops. After a discussion of the immigrant history of the neighborhood, the regional differences in traditional Chinese cuisine, and how Chinese American dishes developed we’ll begin our walking tour.  We’ll delve into the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine, visit a Jade shop, and a shop that sells quality teas and teapots. When you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll enjoy a communal style lunch that dates back to Kublai Khan. After lunch we’ll continue our stroll through this “little sliver of Hong Kong” exploring a 72 year old family owned grocery with some time to pick up a few treasures to take home.

Three and a half hour tour
$72.00 per person – 8- 22 people
Our classic 3.5 hour adventure includes a brief history of the neighborhood, a description of the evolution of Chinese American food, and historical insights into the Chinese community and Chinese food culture. Your guide will lead you through 5 markets while providing you with helpful tips on how to shop for delicious and authentic Chinese foods, medicines and other goods. You’ll also be introduced to the basic concepts of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Tastings are provided in several of the shops. The tour ends/or begins with Dim Sum.

Two-hour tour
$48.00 per person – 10-22 people
This modified two-hour tour is great for groups on a tighter schedule that still want to experience the neighborhood and learn about the most important shops and ingredients. You will visit 5 markets, including a Chinese apothecary, with tastings provided at several of the shops.

Two-hour tour
$24.00 per person – 10-22 people
Special student pricing provides for 1 chaperone per 10 students. Additional chaperones will be charged the regular 2-hour tour price of $48 per person. This tour is an ideal compliment to Mandarin language class, ethnic culture studies or culinary arts programs. This specialized tour is only for elementary, high school, or culinary arts students. The 2-hour tour will be arranged according to your particular interests. Children learn best by using all of their senses. Whether sampling Cantonese Roast Pork or Moon Cakes, this tour provides an opportunity for students to see, smell and touch, as they taste the snacks that help define a cultural identity.

In the tourism industry, it is customary to tip the tour guide. Our guides are professional chefs and ambassadors of our neighborhoods. A gratuity of 15% will be added to the final price.

  • At nearly every stop, we’ll enjoy small tastes of specific Chinese snacks.
  • While we go inside most of the stores that make up the tour, getting to and from each stop requires being outside in the elements. Appropriate outerware and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended (as is bringing an umbrella, if necessary).
  • Since the stores are very small, groups over 11 may be divided into smaller groups with separate guides. Each group will experience the same tour but in a different order.
  • All tastings are done on the go, seating areas are not available in the shops.
  • Handouts describing the stores are provided.
  • Tours are held rain or shine.
  • Please schedule a rest room stop for your group before entering Boston. Bathrooms are available for emergencies only.
  • Your final headcount and remaining balance are due 7 days prior to the tour.
  • No refunds are given for tour cancellation and no-shows after the final headcount is received.
  • Please see our FAQ page for additional information.

Due to the popularity of our tours, we strongly suggest that you book tours well in advance.

  • Group tours can be scheduled Sunday through Friday, beginning at 9am, ending at 6pm.
  • Group tour rates do not apply to regularly scheduled tours on Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • We will do our best to provide a customized or specialty tour to meet your group’s needs.
Why we don’t do large group tours on Saturdays

Please note that Saturday and Sunday are the days when families return to visit friends, family and shopkeepers while doing their weekly shopping. We respect this tradition and strive to maintain the integrity of this neighborhood. Since the neighborhood and the stores are quite small, we do not schedule large group tours on Saturdays or Sundays. If the weekend is your only option, and if your group is no more than 12 people, we may be able to provide a tour for you on a weekend.
